YEARS LATER (Part 1)
BLACK LILYS
If you're familiar with Black Lilys' work, you have had the chance to experience the passionate, graceful and spontaneous energy they pour into each one of their projects. YEARS LATER (Part I) is the first EP from a two part listening experience set to release on November 1st. honouring their journey for the past decade as a band. The duo announced that YEARS LATER (Part II) will suit shortly after in early 2025.
Robin and Camille are not only tied by their musical endeavours and achievement, but share a deeper bond, one of blood you could say, since they are siblings. This project was nothing but meant to be and they surely do not intend to waste the special and incredible opportunity of working and growing alongside each other musically and in life.
The opening track Invisible Strings (Years Later) was the track that inspired the whole YEARS LATER album. Black Lilys said "In a world of overflowing information, this song urges us to question everything we've accepted as truth and embrace the discomfort of change in the way we think, and perceive the world and others."
On track two, Shelter (Years Later), Black Lilys welcomed the award-winning Scottish songwriter Mike McKenzie to duet with Camille. The song which they said to be "a colour, a taste, a smell, a memory of happiness overwhelmed by nostalgia" premiered on BBC Introducing Scotland and received strong radio support across the BBC radio network.
Next in line we find Boxes (Years Later), which from the very start lets Robin's incredible skills on the guitar come to the forefront, building a magical foundation for Camille's voice to grow upon. The song, which boldly encourages us to break free from the confines of societal expectations and embrace our true selves, with all our differences, is a cinematic pop piece, full of nuances touching different genres from folk to indie.
Track 4, Istanbul (Years Later) is the most alternative number on the EP, arrangement wise it plays with layers of moody vocals and piano interventions. The haunting song captures a sense of longing by using the vibrant city of Istanbul as a metaphor for an emotionally charged
3 minutes and 36 seconds exploration.
Black Lilys complete YEARS LATER (Part I) by taking us back to the very raw and minimal approach that's a signature feature of the band and mirrors the duo's new live show very well with Wrong Timing (Years Later). Wrong Timing (Years Later) dives into the bittersweet reality that sometimes even the strongest connections can fall apart if timing isn't right. The original version landed a coveted spot in the soundtrack for the popular Netflix series titled Partner Track.
Without further ado, Black Lilys and London's North Note cordially invite you to enjoy YEARS LATER (Part I) released on 1st of November and invite you to their official album release parties also in November in France in Paris and Lyon.
